What is Workplace Giving?

Workplace giving programs are arrangements where part of an employee’s pay is paid, or is to be paid, as a gift to a DGR. The gift is paid through the payroll system at the direction of the employee, and the gift is made under a regular planned giving arrangement (monthly).

Workplace Giving is a simple and effective way for employees to regularly donate to charities or organisations who are entitled to receive tax deductible donations.

Workplace Giving gives more meaning and strengthens the company’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), especially in the Relationships section of your RAP.

OTDF offers this opportunity to corporates and encourages you all to consider and explore the theme of this year’s Reconciliation Week - ‘More than a word. Reconciliation takes action’. We ask ‘how are you taking action to build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, histories, cultures, and futures?’

Why Opening The Doors Foundation a worthy foundation to support?

The Opening The Doors Foundation has been supporting Aboriginal education for 20 years. In this time, the Foundation has maintained strong partnerships with a range of key figures in the education system including schools, Aboriginal educators, Aboriginal organisations, and, of course, Aboriginal families themselves. The Board of Trustees is made up mostly of Aboriginal people who understand the needs of Aboriginal families in the education system.

The Foundation listens to the needs of families and community and we know that they know what is best for their children. We simply provide accessable and culturaly safe support that helps to opens to doors to opportunities and consistency in each child’s educational environment.

Supporting Opening The Doors Foundation through Workplace Giving means all donations made will go directly to the educational needs of Aboriginal students in the most beneficial way to them and their families.

Why is Workplace Giving beneficial to the employee?

  1. 100% of donations through the Workplace Giving Program go directly to the school costs of Aboriginal students.

  2. Donations are deducted by payroll, making the process easier.

  3. Employees can claim a deduction for the gift in their annual tax return, without the effort of making the donation themselves. Donations appear on your end of year tax statement.

  4. Employees can spread their donation over the year, rather than making a larger one-time donation.

Workplace Giving Program gives a sense of Community Corporate Responsibility

  1. Workplace Giving increases the donation size as employees can donate easily through payroll.

  2. Promoting a Workplace Giving Program will increase the donation size as colleagues and/or the employer can donate as well. Employers make their own contribution to the Foundation. Some employers choose to match the donation of employees OR increase their own donation size at specific times of the year e.g. NAIDOC Week or National Reconciliation Week

  3. Employers will receive regular communication about the work of the Foundation. Employees are also able to receive communication from the Foundation if they choose.

  4. The Foundation form a strong corporate partnership with businesses who choose to partake in the Workplace Giving Program including sharing news and where funds have been directed.

Why is Workplace Giving a beneficial way for Opening the Doors Foundation to receive Donations?

  1. The Foundation receives regular income but don’t have to issue individual receipts, saving time and money.

  2. Workplace Giving reduces administration costs for the Foundation. This means that 100% of donations go directly to the school costs of Aboriginal students.

  3. As a small, volunteer backed organisation, lower administration costs make a huge difference to the support we are able to provide to families

  4. We ensure that your funds will be spent on what is important to each student and their family.

  5. By partnering with businesses through Workplace Giving, we are allowed to reach a wider audience including all employees.
